Learn to Surf Waves with Professional Local Surfers
Surf School
Our surf instructors are all bilingual local Costa Rican surfers with minimum two years teaching experience and training. All of our instructors have competed nationally and are beginning to compete globally. All surf sessions have a maximum of three surfers per instructor, to ensure your safety and guarantee your learning! Surf sessions take place at Playa Grande, a perfect beach break located in the middle of a pristine reserve. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to Playa Grande and the surfboards are ready-and-waiting for you there. Classes are offered every day.
At the beginning of your lesson, your instructor will go over important safety and technical information during an introduction on the land. Then, you spend two hours in the water practicing your balance on the board, getting a feel for the waves, mastering the arts of “popping up” and paddling effectively. You will not only learn the basics during your lesson, but you will gain a new-found passion!
For intermediates, you will head out into the consistent left and right breaks. Your instructor will guide you through the process of reading waves, taking turns, carving and shredding.
For beginners, we recommend signing up for the Three Week or One Month program. This way, you will have an instructor guiding you through the initial learning curve of learning to surf, and your skill will improve rapidly. You will have one rest day during your five weekly lessons, so your muscles can recover. With such a concentrated time, you will have a chance to learn your own style and will improve rapidly, for you will always have someone next to you to help you with personal successes and struggles.

Surf Safari
Proyecto Montezuma organizes a daily Surf Safari to many amazing local surf points. Departure times are based on the tide and we meet every day at Proyecto Montezuma’s office. Most popular Surf Safari destinations include Playa Cedros, Playa Reyes, Mal Pais, Playa Carmen and Santa Teresa. We can organize a personalized Surf Safari for you too, just let us know where you want to go and when.
Surf Safari includes surfboard rental, surf wax, rash guard, transportation, fresh tropical fruit and bottled water.

Multi-day Surf Safari:
We head to three incredible points, three different days. The Multi-day Surf Safari is great for beginners or advanced surfers. If you are learning to ride, you will spend the first day mastering the basics of “popping up” and during the second two days you will learn more about different wave breaks and how to take “left and right” turns.
For more experience riders, we will coordinate your three days based on your riding preferences, the tides and we will hit the hot spots when the swell rolls in.
Day One:
Starting at Playa Grande (20 minute jungle walk through Montezuma’s reserved and protected lands), you will get a taste of the local waves at this sand-bottom beach break.

Spanish Immersion Course
Spanish Immersion courses include course workbook and all needed materials. Our teachers are all native Costa Rican Spanish speakers who are trained and experienced. Conquer your lifelong dream of speaking a new language as you master the art of surfing great waves. Classes are immersion style, with a focus on conversational proficiency. You will learn Spanish grammar and local idioms. Spanish Immersion courses are available for beginners, intermediate and advanced speakers.

Yoga and Surfing are the perfect pair, for both compliment your muscle development, flexibility, and mental concentration. Your Yoga classes are group classes, mostly with other surfers, and all instructors pay close attention to your poses, struggles and personal goals.
